Most Dangerous American Cities

America has a wide range of people, some nice and some not so nice. We even have certain regions of the US where people are known to be more courteous, and others to keep more to themselves. While this statistic has nothing to do with crime, it is interesting because the United States is home to millions of people, all of who are different.

The United States is also home to many cities. Cities are wonderful and productive places, but with good also comes bad. Cities are also full of crime.

Here are the top 4 most dangerous American cities.

St. Louis, Missouri

St. Louis is not just home to the famous Gateway Arch, it is also the number 1 most dangerous city as of 2020 statistic studies. According to Neighborhood Scout, your chances of being involved in a violent crime in St. Louis is 1 in 50. Those odds don’t seem high when it comes to a friendly game of chances with your friends, but when it comes to crime, it seems a little too high for comfort.

You may be surprised St. Louis is at the top of this list, as its crime index is only 67, whereas Jackson is at 4 (the higher the number, the safe the city). St. Louis has the cost of crime. The cost of crime refers to the impact on the victim and their family, and the impact on the community.

Jackson, Mississippi

The capital city of M, I, double S, I, double S, I, double P, I – it’s Jackson. Jackson Mississippi is the second most dangerous city in the United States right now. The crime rate here is less than in St. Louis but seems big for the small town feel that Mississippi has. Your odds of being involved in a violent crime are 1 in 119 people.

Detroit, Michigan

It probably isn’t a large shock to see Detroit, Michigan on this list. While it isn’t deemed the most dangerous, the crime rates are shocking. It is a 1 in 30 chance that you are involved in a violent crime, with a crime index of 3. A crime index shows a percentage level of the most dangerous (at a 1) and the safest (at a 100).

Though the crime rate is high, there are plenty of interesting things about this city. It is known as a very important part of the automobile industry, as Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler all have headquarters in Detroit.

New Orleans, Louisiana

Everyone loves some NOLA and all the good food and festivities associated with this popular tourist stop, and we are sure no one is too surprised to see that it is in the top 5 most dangerous U.S. Cities. You’ve probably been there a few times for vacations or Mardi Gras and you probably think you are fully aware of just how dangerous it is, so here’s a pop quiz to see how accurate your NOLA crime rate facts are.

The crime index is 2, and you really can’t get worse than that except for Monroe, Louisiana with a crime index of 0. That literally means it is safer than 0% of cities.

New Orleans, in all of its beautiful and crime rampant streets, is certainly one of a kind.
